Have you ever wondered what it would be like to paint a human, climb a tree house, and experience a cocoon playground all in one place?
Alright, maybe you haven’t…
But, if I’ve now sparked your interest I’m excited to report that there IS a place to do it all!
This past weekend, I attended the annual Figment festival on Governor’s Island, where artists and creators are invited to celebrate an abundance of creativity and passion.
Spread throughout the island, various forms of performance art, musical events, public sculptures, collaborative paintings, whimsical crafts, and interactive infrastructures are crowded with people of all ages.
And, it gets even better.
EVERYTHING is free!
Why Figment?
It’s genuine purpose is to challenge artists and our communities to find new ways to create, share, think, and dream – a beautiful breath of fresh air from our hectic every day lives.
At Figment, festival-goers are instantly transported to the likes of a magical land the minute they step off the Governor’s Island ferry.
With tons of people dressed in crazy costumes, a scattered array of large, bright, and colorful art activities and installations, and dynamic dancing everywhere you turn, it’s difficult to resist the allure of Figment’s wonder.
As a creative haven for anyone with the desire to express themselves through any conceivable medium, Figment certainly has it all!
From a living typewriter social sculpture project to a Tsunami Bass Experience music and dance troop, the eclectic variety of art open to the public is a special sight.
So keep Figment in the back of your mind for some summer fun next year, grab your family and friends, and head out to Governor’s Island for an event filled with kindred spirits, playful projects, and all the art you could ever ask for!
