Unless you’re addicted to C-Span coverage of Republican debates, you know the Super Bowl is this weekend! Last year we highlighted the artwork in Cowboys Stadium where the Super Bowl took place.
This year, the New York “Football” Giants and The New England Patriots face off in Indianapolis. Even though our Editor in Chief is quick to point out the big art show being held in Indianapolis over Super Bowl weekend, Lucas Oil Stadium itself is not known for it’s art collection.
So, what better way to celebrate this year’s Super Bowl than with art inspired by patriots and giants!

The hyperbole in Washington Crossing the Delaware doesn’t hold a candle to Etsy artist to Jason Heuser’s ”Epically Patriotic Art”.
Heuser’s prints portray some of the most famous patriots in American history kicking some serious a**.
His fun and quirky depictions of patriotic pride get laughs from all but the most serious historian, and, who knows–maybe David McCullough chuckles when he sees them!
Abe Lincoln Riding a Grizzly by Jason Heuser
nAscent artist Gavin Sewell’s piece, appropriately titled, Old Glory, depicts artist’s rendition of the American flag, and it does not disappoint. Art lovers will appreciate Sewell’s bold collage of American history. See an interview with Gavin here!
Much giant-inspired art comes from mythology. Zeus Battles Three Giants tells the story of when the Giants wanted to overthrow Zeus because he had overthrown the titans.

Oddsmakers have the New York Giants as underdogs, but co-workers at The Bare Square tell me Tom Brady is no Zeus. I’m sure our readers in Boston would disagree!
Giant-inspired art also comes from Obey clothing company, and their “Andre the Giant has a posse” street art clothing line.
The sticker campaign, courtesy of Shepard Fairey, had a hand in the Oscar-nominated film “Exit Through the Gift Shop”. He’s also known for the Obama “Hope” posters from the 2008 presidential campaign.

Even if you’re not a huge football fan (like me), have fun watching The Super Bowl! Enjoy the food, enjoy your friends and even if no one else does, enjoy the art of it all!
Oh, and don’t be embarrassed if you laugh out loud during The National Anthem because all you can think of is Abe Lincoln riding a bear.
